In order to achieve its objectives, ACTIBIO should support: a) Robust and accurate interpretation of human presence in the controlled area, b) Robust and accurate authentication or recognition of individuals. Novel algorithms, sensor setups and techniques will be implemented within ACTIBIO in order to compensate for the limitations posed by the environment and the individuals. The biometric modalities that are initially considered compatible with the objectives of the project are face, gait, gestures, “soft” biometrics such as height, figure and special biometrics that can be collected via the use of unobtrusive sensors such as sensing seats for the extraction of anthropometric profiles and weight measurements. The project will also research on the use of physiological biometrics extracted from EEG, ECG measured using wireless sensors, as well as activity-related biometrics measured using either wearable sensors or novel sound sensors. The use of the latter ones depends on the application scenarios.
The ACTIBIO system will operate in three modes:
ACTIBIO’s plan includes also the development of three pilot sites. In each site the technological infrastructure and applications developed by the project will be installed, validated and evaluated with the active involvement of users through several alternative realistic usage scenarios:
